Read and learn about Dubai and you might be very surprised. Simple assuming that they are fleecing us with high oil prices is rather ignorant and xenophobic.

UAE (That’s the United Arab Emirates, the country in which you will find Dubai), has virtually no poverty and crime, because the oil revenue is shared by almost all residents. This is in stark contrast to other oil nations (Saudi Arabia et. al.), where the wealth is hyperconcentrated among ruling “royal” families, while the rest of the nation suffers.

At the same time, Dubai / UAE knows their oil reserves will likely run dry prior to 2030. So rather than being blind to it and hoping for the best, they have spent the last two decades striving to turn this city on the Gulf Coast into a world renowned destination resort and center for commerce. As such, building has occurred at break neck speed.

I would gladly pay current oil prices if the result was more nations and cities like UAE and Dubai.

Don’t think of it as depressing. Poverty in Saudi Arabia- where everyone could be rich beyond comprehension if there was any sense of social justice or moral obligation, is depressing. Dubai is encouraging and even inspiring if you will.
