Toss Outlook for Thunderbird

Thunderbird 2.0 is out now and it’s had a lot of work done under the hood. It’s more responsive, has a built in tagging system and, with the calendar extension, has a built in calendar.

Thunderbird is free and cross platform, so pretty much anyone can try it. It even works with Microsoft Exchange accounts.

It includes saved search folders and lables too for organization purposes. You can even star a message just like GMail.

It’s about time to take one more item out of Microsoft’s empire and give Thunderbird a shot. Who knows, you may just like it better!

Blogging With Textmate

I’m trying to blog with TextMate. Everyone seems to love this application and I just don’t get it. Now that it has blogging capabilities, my interest is peaked again. However, not for long I have a feeling. It just doesn’t seem to be all that and I’m not sure what I’m missing.

Update: My post didn’t even successfully make it to my blog yet threw no errors. I just don’t get it. What’s so cool abut TextMate????

Testing Performancing aka Scribefire

In my quest to find an acceptable blog editor, I’m now testing out Scribefire (formally Performancing).

My first issue with it is no spell check! And, since I’m using Flock, that maeans I have no spell check at all. Sad. Personally, I’m awaiting the built in spellcheck feature in Flock like Firefox 2.0 has. Hopfully it’s coming soon.

Anyways. The second thing I don’t like about Scribefire is the uglyness. Yes, it’s kinda ugly. It seems more thrown together than designed. Maybe it just looks that way on a Mac.

Third thing is that it seems to slow down my browser. Opening new windows is slower and I think it’s a bit much.

On the bright side, I love the blogging window at the bottom of my browsing window. That’s handy. Plus it has good features and Pingoat built in. NICE.

I’ll keep watching Scribefire, but so far, not overly impressed.

I’ve finally decided to re-download ecto and give it a try again. If all works well, I’ll buy it. I’m hoping that this will encourage me to post more often and maybe even better posts. Then maybe I really will resurrect this blog!!

Qumana + Intel Mac = No Go

When I wrote about Bleezer and Flock the other day, it was suggested I re-checkout the Qumana blogging program. So, I gave in and checked it out only to find out, I can’t use it.

There are two places I blog, work and home. It Qumana doesn’t work under Mac 10.3 so that’s out for work and it doesn’t seem to work correctly on my Intel iMac. It loads, gives me a message saying it’s going to pop-open a window so I can add blogs, however nothing happens. I can’t add any blogs, so I can’t blog with Qumana.

Again, Flock seems to be the best free blogging software I’ve found so far.

Qumana support, please look into the Intel Mac issue.

Blogging via Flock

Moments ago I blogged via Bleezer and now I’m blogging via Flock.

Flock isn’t exactly a desktop client as it’s built into the Flock web browser. However, it’s free, very handy and integrates well into my internet experience.

Flock has all the necessities. Spell check, WYSIWYG post writing, multiple categories, multiple blogs and much more. Seeing as Flock is also integrated into Flickr, it makes images easier to input into my blog posts too.

I think that Flock has the best chance of being my free blog editor of choice as it works well and integrates into my browser so there is no extra software to install.

Nice, very nice.

Best Free Mac Application Site

Every now and then I come across a site that is valuable. So valuable that I can’t help but post about it.

FreeMacWare.com posts about handy, free Mac applications. I’ve found lots of good tools that I’ve never heard about. Like:

FreeMacWare.com is the best resource for new switchers, poor college kids, or anyone who wants to find great software for the Mac but don’t want to pay for it. Freeware, I love freeware!
