Author: Terry Fallon

As the nights get cooler, and the trees begin to change color, there is no doubt that fall is on the way. And with fall comes flu season. This year, in particular, many are worried about the H1N1 virus, commonly referred to as “swine flu.” Many are concerned about the reported shortage of H1N1 vaccine.

Because of the serious threat posed by this strain of flu, health authorities are on alert. Unfortunately, however, the US health department reports that 120 million doses of swine flu vaccine will be required to protect the population. Only one third of that number will be available in October when flu season begins!

What is the reason for this shortage? Dr. Robin Robinson, of the US Dept of HHS (Health & Human Services) was quoted in Reuters (8/18/09) as stating: “We’re trying to bring on more manufacturing…hopefully there are ways to bring that number up.”

The Dept of HHS is attempting to add new manufacturing companies because the logjam seems to lie with current capacity.

Since there is a shortage of H1N1 vaccine, the supply will not cover the entire population. Accordingly, the government is planing to ration the swine flu vaccine. As flu season begins, the only people that will be able to be inoculated are pregnant women, people who work in public health, and children that are under the age of four.

How serious is the problem? Even though the H1N1 vaccination will be the largest in human history, the White House Council for Science has estimated that there could be 30,000 to 90,000 deaths resulting from the swine flu strain during this 2009 flu season.

Are public health officials concerned? Naturally. They are worried that people that do not receive vaccinations will become ill.

The World Health Organization has declared a pandemic, because the H1N1 flu strain affects the entire globe, not just the United States.

Reportedly, dosages available in the United States should increase to about 80 million by early November (well into the flu season), according to health officials. Even so, one third of the population will remain without vaccine.

There is no question that there is a shortage of H1N1 vaccine.

As we go into this flu season, avoid public places like schools and large public buildings if you possibly can. Do your best to stay away from people who are coughing or sneezing. Practice ritual hand washing with soap and hot water. When a sink is not available, use hand sanitizers. And if you become ill, stay home! Isolate yourself or your sick family members so that they will not infect others!

But, if you had purchased $1000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling refund you would have $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. This is called the 401-Keg Plan.

That just because two people argue, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. And just because they don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do love each other.

I Believe…
That we don’t have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

I Believe…
That no matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I Believe…
That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

I Believe…
That you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I Believe…
That money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I Believe…
That my best friend and I, can do anything, or nothing and have the best time.

I Believe. ..
That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you’re down, will be the ones to help you get back up.

I Believe…
That sometimes when I’m angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be cruel.

I Believe…
That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you’ve had and what you’ve learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you’ve celebrated.

I Believe…
That it isn’t always enough, to be forgiven by others. Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I Believe…
That no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn’t stop for your grief.

I Believe…
That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but, we are responsible for who we become.

I Believe…
That you shouldn’t be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life Forever.

I Believe…
Two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

I Believe…
That your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don’t even know you.

I Believe…
That even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you — you will find the strength to help.

I Believe…
That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I Believe…
That the people you care about most in life are taken from you too soon.

I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job: a flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient one ton truck refused to start.

While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands.

When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.

‘Oh, that’s my trouble tree,’ he replied ‘I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing’s for sure, those troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again.’
‘Funny thing is,’ he smiled,’ when I come out in the morning to pick ‘em up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before’

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance. We all Need a Tree

My friend J wanted to know how to take down a pop-up tent so I thought I’d share some insight.

Pop-up tents can come down as easy as they went up. If you have a friend, maybe you’d be lucky enough to have them do it for you. Then you can sit back and enjoy the work being done by someone else. If not, don’t worry, this can be accomplished by yourself.

First thing to do is remove any exterior pieces of the tent as you can. Getting to the center pole is the most important part. Then, just work with it a little. Jiggle it or give it a little push and pull. It may be hard, and seem like it’s getting harder, but eventually the pole will give out and you’ll feel relieved. Now, the whole tent should come down pretty easy.

Now all you have left to do is clean up the mess and re-package the tent. Put it in a safe spot and save it for another day.

That’s it!

Plastic sacks, you know the ones that you end up with hundreds of, work good to keep breakable things safe. Need more wrapping material? How about the bathroom towels or a tshirt? They all have to be packed, so why not use what you have?

Now with free iPod videos! Ok so it’s just an iPod with video, but I like saying iPod video.

I did get my free iPod. It’s 20 gig with a color screen and is so nice. Now I’m helping a friend get a free iPod with video capabilities.

Lets face it, not everyone can afford to just run out and grab an iPod. College students, or those on a budgeted income, can’t exactly just go out and pick up one of those wonderful Apple toys. However there is a way to get a free iPod!

To get your free iPod you just follow this referral link and you’ll have to sign up. Don’t worry it’s free to sign up too. Once in the system you have to complete one offer. It’s not like they are all that bad. Blockbuster is one of the offers, there are credit card deals, book deals and more. Some are very good offers. Once an offer is complete, you need 5 other people to sign up for offers and then they’ll send you a free iPod.

This is actually legit to. I know I was skeptical at first, however my friend has gotten a few free iPods. Yes, he sucks, but he tested out the system and it actually works. Even CNN and Wired are among the many media outlets that have researched the site and determined that it is real.

Imagine all the things you could do with your Apple iPod. Download hours of music and never have to tune in the radio again! Use it as your PDA; keeping all your contacts, notes, images and music in one handy place. There are also thousands of iPod accessories out there from cases to battery packs, speakers, bmw/car hookups and more equipment to turn your iPod into a digital haven.

Don’t miss out on your chance to get a <strike>cheap</strike> free iPod.
